Antimicrobial agents are added to products to protect them from microbial contamination. They are added to protect the product itself from microbial growth, and also to inhibit microbial growth that may be introduced from daily usage of the product.
In testing, the product is challenged with the known strains of microorganisms. Samples are tested at various intervals to determine the survival of the organisms. The test demonstrates the antimicrobial efficacy of the product in stopping the growth of organisms. It goes without saying that all equipment is frequently maintained and calibrated.
Antimicrobial treatment tests are conducted according to standard guidelines for industry such as ISO 20743, ISO 22196, etc. In order to carry out these tests, MIS maintains a range of required organisms, such as: Klebsiella pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
In order to handle these organisms safely the laboratory area complies with the Class 2 standard.
